Above & Beyond News from The Common Source | June 2010
Are you prepared? As residents of Southeast Texas, we are all too familiar with the destruction a storm can bring. From broken windows to flooded cars, there’s much to repair. However, in the midst of preparing for hurricane season, many businesses neglect to ensure their vital information is taken care of in case of a disaster—whether it be a storm, fire or any other emergency. The Common Source ensures your important information is scanned, converted to electronic form, and stored on its secure servers, as well as a mirror copy is stored at its disaster recovery site, so you don’t have to risk losing critical documents during emergency situations—no matter what disaster comes your way. In addition, maintaining electronic copies of all your printed documents contributes to necessary compliance with corporate or individual business continuity plans. From emergency preparation to contingency plans, it helps to protect your vital information on an off-site server. To learn more, visit the Disaster Recovery page on our website.
Service Station The Scan Plan. The Common Source recently received a unique opportunity to work with ARMA Houston, a not-for-profit professional association in the records and information management industry. The task: ARMA Houston needed all their printed newsletters (dating as far back as 1967) converted into electronic form for inclusion on the ARMA Houston website—celebrating 50 years of RIM this year. The solution:	Since most of their newsletters were bound together in volumes for posterity, we made the project possible with the use of our state-of-the-art book scanner. By using our scanner, we converted their printed newsletters into electronic form, so that all of ARMA Houston’s approximately 500 members can view their newsletter, the ARMAdilla, online. Scanning can help in many capacities and our high-quality book scanner can handle the most fragile of documents to ensure your communication materials and other information is stored electronically and in a safe place. Be on the lookout for the historical ARMAdilla’s addition to the ARMA Houston website, www.armahouston.org. Define your own reward. Take advantage of our referral program and you could be rewarded with a $250 American Express® gift card or we will make a donation in your name to the charity of your choice (must be a 501(c) organization). Charity Corner The Common Source supports MDA’s annual summer camp, “Camp for All”, by scanning all camp documents and records into electronic format. To secure the children’s data, TCS generated a system ensuring each camper’s information is correctly compiled to send to MDA’s national office for emergency purposes. Picture This Each month, we conduct an online photo contest with pictures of rare and unique animals that Ann took while in Africa last fall. If you can correctly guess the animal’s name, you are entered to win a drawing. Monthly winners receive a framed, autographed photo and a $100 American Express® gift card.
