Above & Beyond News from The Common Source | January 2010
Book Smart January marks a new addition to The Common Source as we welcome our latest, high-tech piece of equipment—a special machine designed to digitize books. The book scanner uses state-of-the-art technology to carefully handle even rare and fragile books. •	Canon EOS-1Ds Mark II digital cameras to capture both the left and right-hand pages simultaneously for clear, high-quality images. •	A gentle book handler keeps every book open at 110 degrees, providing low-stress to the pages and binding. •	A robotic arm gently picks up and carefully turns each page with an adjustable vacuum system, making it safer than the human hand. •	The machine ensures that only one page is turned at a time, catching if a page is missed to allow for corrective action. All books are delicate, and our new book scanning process helps keep each one in the same condition as when it arrived at our building. At The Common Source, we proudly extend this enhanced service to you. For more information, give us a call at 281.260.9220. Or, to view the BookScan in action, watch the online video.
Did you know? The Common Source is committed to quality. It’s true—not all document management firms double check your files to assure that all pages, front and back, have been scanned. Imagine finding only the odd-numbered pages of your documents when you need them most. Technology clearly offers dramatic opportunities for enhancing office automation, increasing productivity and reducing costs. However, not all document management firms can be relied upon to handle your crucial information. At The Common Source, we pride ourselves on our 100% quality control processes. Our staff compares every page of the paper original to the digital image we create to assure that not only is every page captured, but also straight, clear and complete.

Charity Corner The Common Source proudly supports Muscular Dystrophy Association (MDA)—a nonprofit dedicated to curing muscular dystrophy, ALS and related diseases, along with providing comprehensive health care, support services, advocacy and education. Ann Zdansky, President of The Common Source, negotiated a deal with MDA’s “Goodfather” to send a cabin of kids to camp. Ann is a member of MDA’s “Elite Fifty” supporters, and together the group raised more than $100.000, sending 125 kids to camp. Production and Quality Control Manager, Cheryl Traber, helped raise $34,024 for MDA at the Greenspoint Lock-up fundraiser.
